Each Columbia Summer Winds season can be quite a feat to undertake: an ambitious four concert series within the narrow parameters of two months of rehearsal time.  However, we manage to create an open and inviting atmosphere for our membership to share their enthusiastic passion for music with an audience, at no cost to the general public, time and again.  In our 2009 season alone, we reached an estimated 600 people through three concerts.  It is our goal to surpass the 750 person mark in our 2010 season.

We happily serve those in neighborhoods who have come to expect us every season.  Columbia Summer Winds has truly turned into a phenomenon all of its own.

Columbia Summer Winds is extremely fortunate to rely on the talent and time volunteered by our Director, Associate Conductors, Executive Board, Officers and Load Crew Volunteers to ensure our rehearsals, recording sessions and performances are executed efficiently.  However, additional funding will allow us to reach an even greater Manhattan audience, perform in larger, more popular Manhattan venues, compensate our Director/Associate Conductors and Staff for their currently volunteered hard work, and reach more musicians throughout Manhattan.

In its 2009 season, largely in response to the loss of two of our most treasured members, manager Debra Silver and percussionist Dan Tedlie, Columbia Summer Winds was able to generate enough funds from its membership to incorporate as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization (still in process).  This is an additional $835 in funds raised: an impressive goal to attain for a group which began as a dedicated core of Columbia University undergraduates and a handful of community members in 2002.
